Eucalyptus a genus originating from
Australia, has been grown in Uganda
since 1906. The tree is fast growing
compared to other exotic tree species.
Over 97% of Uganda’s population relies
on fuel wood, a significant amount of
which is provided by Eucalypts. Eucalypts
are also a good source of fencing posts,
electrical poles and timber. Thus Eucalypt
is a very important tree species in Uganda.
There are many species of Eucalypts but
those incorporated for plantation forestry in
Uganda are Egrandis and Esaligna for the wet
area and Ecamadulensis and Eteriticomis for
the drier areas.
